Body found sliced in half on railroad tracks
Filed under Weird
Denver police are investigating the gruesome discovery of a body sliced in half on the railroad tracks near South Santa Fe Drive, between Yale and Evans avenues.

The body was spotted by a Burlington Northern employee who called police at 4:30 a.m.

The man’s body was face down across one rail of the track and it had been severed across the torso. Police were trying to determine how the body ended up on the tracks and if the man was alive when he was run over. They were also working to identify him.

RTD light rail trains had to slow down in the area because police were working along the tracks, but RTD Spokesman Scott Reed said the trains remained on schedule.

Indian passengers asked to get out and push train
Filed under Weird

Hundreds of Indian rail passengers got more than they had bargained for when the driver of their train asked them to get out and push.

It took more than half an hour to move the stalled electric train 12 feet so that it touched live overhead wires and was able to resume its journey, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the eastern state of Bihar on Tuesday after a passenger pulled the train’s emergency chain and it halted in a “neutral zone,” a short length of track where there is no power in the overhead wires.

“In so many years of service in the railways, I have never come across such a bizarre incident,” said Deepak Kumar Jha, a spokesman for Indian Railways.

A train’s momentum usually allows it to continue moving through neutral zones.

India’s rail network carries more than 15 million people daily — more than the combined population of Norway and Sweden — but its safety record often comes in for criticism.

More snakes eating humans

Following the huge popularity of my original Human Eat Snake. Snake Eat Human post, I have two more pictures to feed your appetite with. They are probably not as good as the photos found in my first post, but still interesting to look at nonetheless.

Man breaks into prison and breaks out again
Filed under Weird

A bumbling intruder broke into an empty New Zealand police station and accidentally locked himself in a cell, but managed to smash his way out again just before authorities arrived.

Sgt. Graham McGurk on Monday said the person broke into the deserted police station in the town of Matamata on North Island on Saturday night through the front office.

The intruder went to the cell bloc, and was accidentally locked in when a self-closing door clicked shut.

As police rushed to respond to an intruder alarm at the post, the intruder used a wooden chair that was inside the cell to smash through a window — supposedly outfitted with shatter-proof glass — to freedom.

Arriving officers could hear the intruder, but he fled through the front of the station as police were closing in from the back, McGurk said.

“It was quite unusual. The offender has almost done the job for us, getting himself locked in our cell,” he said.

It wasn’t known why the person broke into the police station, and nothing was stolen, McGurk said.

EnergyPod; The ultimate geek sleeping machine.

Out of energy? Need a quick energy boost? Feel like having a power nap (also known as a catnap)? Then you need to get yourself an EnergyPod. If you are feeling any of the above, all you need to do is hop into the EnergyPod, let the pod recline and a privacy shield descend, and drift off into LaLa Land. After twenty minutes (the optimum time a power nap should last) you will be woken by gentle vibrations and an acoustic alarm.

Sound amazing? Indeed it is. The EnergyPod can be yours for only US$8,000.

Cruel little 10-year-old beats up homeless Army veteran
Filed under Weird
A 10-year-old boy was convicted Thursday in the beating of a homeless Army veteran that left the man so severely injured he required reconstructive surgery.

Prosecutors say the boy, another 10-year-old and Jeremy Woods, 17, ganged up on John D’Amico, 58, as he and a friend walked through a Daytona Beach neighborhood on March 27. The older man was beaten and stoned with a concrete block.

Circuit Judge John Watson found the boy guilty of aggravated battery and set sentencing for May 24.

The boy, who appeared in court in shackles and an oversized jumpsuit, could be held in the juvenile system until he turns 21 if the judge considers him a habitual offender, or he could be given probation or counseling.

D’Amico, who still has a bandage over his left eye, testified that he never provoked the boys as they claimed.

“The judge saw through the nonsense,” D’Amico said outside court. “They need to hold him until he can prove that he’ll never do this to somebody else because next time he can kill somebody.”

The child’s mother left the courtroom visibly upset and refused to comment.

The other 10-year-old pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and faces up to a year in juvenile detention when he is sentenced May 24. He has been released to an aunt in Michigan.

Woods has pleaded not guilty to aggravated battery charges and faces up to 15 years in state prison if convicted.

D’Amico has undergone numerous operations since the attack, including reconstructive surgery to his face.

Man supposed to die spends everything; but doesn’t die
Filed under Weird

Money money money!

A British man who went on a wild spending spree after doctors said he only had a short time to live wants compensation because the diagnosis was wrong and he is now healthy — but broke.

John Brandrick, 62, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two years ago and told that he would probably die within a year.

He quit his job, sold or gave away nearly all his possessions, stopped paying his mortgage and spent his savings dining out and going on holiday.

Brandrick was left with little more than the black suit, white shirt and red tie that he had planned to be buried in when it emerged a year later that his suspected “tumor” was no more than a non-life threatening inflammation of the pancreas.

“When they tell you you’ve got a limited time and everything, you do enjoy life,” Brandrick, from Cornwall in the west of England, told Sky television.

“I’m really pleased that I’ve got a second chance in life… but if you haven’t got no money after all this, which is my fault — I spent it all — they should pay something back.”

If he can’t get compensation, he is considering selling his house or suing the hospital that diagnosed him. The hospital has said that while it sympathizes with Brandrick, a review of his case showed no different diagnosis would have been made.

Man tries to pass driving exam drunk

Dutch Driving Test

A German man failed his driving test after attempting the examination while three times over the legal alcohol limit, police said Tuesday.

When the man arrived for the test Tuesday morning, both his driving instructor and the examiner detected the smell of alcohol on him, though the 27-year-old assured them he had not been drinking, police in the western town of Bendorf said.

“But his driving was rather bad, so the examiner directed him to toward the police station without him noticing,” the spokesman said. “Once there, he had to get out and take an alcohol test, which revealed he was well over the limit.”

The man will now have to wait “a long time” before he can take another driving test, the spokesman said.

I’ve been too lazy / busy to start driving lessons. Maybe I should do as our good German 27-year-old?

Parking ticket paid with complementary dog waste
Filed under Weird

A 22-year-old man allegedly put dog waste in an envelope with his payment for overtime parking and placed it last week in a drop box for Austin police.

An Austin Police Department staff member noticed a foul smell when getting the man’s envelope out of the box April 25 at the Law Enforcement Center, Police Chief Paul Philipp said.

Upon opening it in her office, the woman noticed a brown fluid on the envelope and her hands, the chief said.

Police interviewed the Austin man, who was cited April 18, and he allegedly admitted to putting fecal matter from a dog into the envelope. The man said he regretted doing it, but had been angry that he had to pay the ticket.

“It was just a stupid thing to do,” Philipp said.

People have used pennies to pay for tickets, Philipp said, and he’s sure some have spit in a payment envelope, but “this is a take-the-cake kind of a guy.”

The staff member who opened the envelope became ill the following day and spent several days in a hospital, Philipp said, but officials don’t know if her sickness was a result of her handling the envelope.

The matter has been forwarded to the Mower County attorney’s office for a possible criminal charge.
