Man offered cash to drown kids for sexual fetish

Joff Dolan - Man with a bizarre sexual fetish

A man from Ohio is accused of offering a Florida mother hundreds of dollars to “dunk” and torture her children under water in order to satisfy a bizarre sexual fetish.

Jeff Doland, of Uniontown, Ohio, was arrested by authorities after he flew to Miami, believing he was going to meet a mother of two girls, ages 9 and 12 years old, to pay her $550 to forcibly submerge the children under water until they became unconscious, officials said.

During multiple Internet conversations, Doland told the woman, an undercover agent with the U.S. Secret Service, that “dunking” was his particular form of sexual gratification.

“The allegations made during the course of this investigation are so heinous they are almost outside the realm of comprehension. Without law enforcement intervention, real children could have been in grave danger,” McCollum said.

The undercover investigation began in April when the Secret Service agent was working undercover in an Internet chat room, posing as the mother of two young daughters, officials said.

Doland claimed online that he “liked watching the bubbles” and went on to send the undercover agent explicit images of child torture as examples of what he proposed to do to the two young children, according to a news release.

Doland requested to meet the “mother” in Miami and was arrested when his plane arrived after again describing to another undercover investigator exactly what he wanted to do to the children, including a detailed explanation of how he planned to bind the young girls to the bottom of the pool of water. The arrest was made with the assistance of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Doland will initially be charged with selling or buying of minors, a first-degree felony, and promoting the sexual performance of a child, a second-degree felony, Attorney General Bill McCollum announced Wednesday.

Doland faces up to 45 years in prison.

Stolen iPods will not charge

Apple has invented a novel method of disabling stolen iPods - by preventing them from charging. The company has filed a patent for a technology that recognises when a device is plugged into an unauthorised computer and, if it is, prevents any further charging.

Every portable gadget with a rechargeable battery has a charging circuit that recognises when the external mains charger has been plugged in. It then manages the transfer of current to the battery. Apple’s patent suggests that by attaching a “guardian circuit” to the charging circuit, it would be possible to block the charging process.

When a device is plugged into an unauthorised computer, software would compare a security code in the device to a code buried in the software in the computer. Apple already employs a similar technology to “pair” iPods to iTunes running on a specific Mac or PC. If the codes do not match, then the guardian circuit could be triggered to prevent any further charging.

“For devices that are mainly powered by a rechargeable-power-supply (eg. music-players, phones, Personal Digital Assistants), disabling the recharger effectively renders the device inoperable when the power of the main power-supply has run out,” Apple notes in the filing. “As such, disabling the recharger should serve as a deterrent to theft.”

Cop shoots 200 pound pet pig

A Georgia family is upset with their local sheriff’s office after a deputy shot and killed their pet pig.

Janice Jones said that Gator, a black, potbellied pig, was a friendly animal that her family had owned for five years and that her two children, ages five and seven, adored.

David Davis, a chief deputy with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, said a new neighbor of the Joneses called the sheriff’s office Wednesday morning, telling them that a wild hog was in her flower bed in her yard.

The hog had no collar and looked like a wild hog, he said. A sheriff’s deputy responded to the call and spent about two hours in the neighborhood, trying to decide what to do before finally shooting the pig, Davis said. Authorities also tried to call the Department of Natural Resources for help during the incident.

The pig rooted around, had tusks and occasionally charged, Davis said. The sheriff’s office estimated that the pig weighed close to two hundred pounds, while the family estimated ninety pounds.

So winning on a faulty slot machine is now a crime?

Prosecutors are considering criminal charges against casino gamblers who won big on a slot machine that had been installed with faulty software.

The machine at Caesars Indiana credited gamblers $10 for each dollar they inserted because the software wasn’t designed for U.S. currency, state police said. More than two dozen people played the machine before one gambler alerted Caesars employees.

Caesars lost $487,000 on the machine during that time, state police said.

A decision on whether to bring criminal charges could come in a couple of weeks, said John Colin, chief deputy prosecutor for Harrison County. He said “criminal intent” may be involved when people play a machine they know is faulty.

The casino said some of the gamblers returned the money after the casino contacted them.

“This is a bit of an unusual case because you’ve got to go back and piece together who did what,” Colin said. The prosecutor’s office declined to say Thursday what criminal charges could be brought.

The incident occurred last July, but he said obtaining casino records took longer than expected.

Kathryn Ford of Louisville, Ky., the gambler who alerted the casino, said going after the other patrons was unfair.

When a slot machine jams and gamblers lose money, they don’t get it back, she said.

“It doesn’t work in the reverse,” Ford said. “They need to forget it and move on.”

1, Isn’t it the casino’s fault for putting out unchecked machines?
2, Kathryn Ford is a complete idiot (I had to restrain myself from putting anything else down). What fool would go and alert the casino? “Oh I don’t like winning, here casino, take it back”.

World’s Fattest Man (569KG)

A Mexican tipping the scales at 560 kilograms (1,234 pounds) will be listed as the world’s fattest man by the Guinness Book of Records, while a loss of 200 kilos (440 pounds) may make him the man who lost the most weight.

“I’m glad to be in the Guinness Book as the fattest man. I am also happy to have lost 200 kilos,” Manuel Uribe, 41, told AFP.

Uribe was able to leave his home in Monterrey, northern Mexico in March aboard a trailer to celebrate his weight loss.

Guinness has recognized his weighty achievement with a glass plaque.

“They gave it to me, I have it in my hands,” said Uribe, who founded an organization to help overweight people.

Uribe’s photograph appears in the 2008 Guinness Book of Records alongside a description of the treatment he has had and offers of surgery he has received.

Uribe said the editor of the book had promised to visit him next year, and held out the possibility of appearing in the 2009 edition as the man who had lost the most weight.

Uribe appeared on television in 2006 seeking help for his excess weight, which has plagued him for more than 20 years, most of which he has spent in bed.

Man steals Porsche from police station

Malaysian police were left red-faced after a man who abandoned the theft of a $280,000 Porsche for lack of fuel attempted the crime a second time and drove the sportscar out of a police station, local media said.

The suspect had first attempted the theft on Monday at a luxury car showroom in northern Penang state, local papers said. Dressed smartly in a suit and tie, he asked for the car keys and promptly sped off, smashing through the glass windows.

The car was later found abandoned a short distance away, its fuel tank empty.

The New Straits Times said the man kept the keys and returned with a canister of petrol to a local police station where the car had been towed. He drove off with the Porsche, ditching it later after he discovered roadblocks had been set up to stop him.

Police were hunting for the suspect, the paper said.

Dharruk man John Robert Patterson, 45, has appeared in Parramatta Bail court on a range of charges including malicious damage.

It is alleged that early this morning he used an armoured personnel carrier to destroy six mobile phone towers and an electricity substation in Sydney’s west during a 90-minute chase by police.

Waitress Jessica Osborne is getting more than a good tip. She’s getting $10,000 for her college education. The 20-year-old waits tables at a Pizza Hut in northeast Indiana. The money is from a mother and her two sons who are regular customers, but don’t want to be named.

Osborne says she’d told the family how she had started college twice before, but had to quit because she didn’t have the money. Osborne says the $10,000 gift made her cry so hard, she couldn’t breathe. And she’s having trouble getting people to believe her. Osborne says a co-worker thought she was lying.
